Poster Design
This project was a collaboration between St. John's University and Ravensbourne University, where students from New York City and London would work together for a month to create posters based on how we connected.
Our first week was spent getting to know each other on a deeper level and figuring out what we had in common. All three of us had a connection to older video games and the nostalgia that came with it, so our first poster brought several gaming mascots together and asked the viewer to remember the past.
The upcoming weeks were more focused on the similarities that NYC and London shared, starting out with their famous skylines. Combining them created an interesting shape to work with, and we expanded on this through the stereotypes that both cities regularly face.
The third week continued with comparing and contrasting NYC and London, this time focusing on their subway systems. Since you tend to see locals using the subways the most, you would also get to hear lots of common slang as you travelled, so we incorporated that using vibrant colors against the darkness of being underground.
For our final week, we went back to the basic of graphic design, creating a Swiss-style poster about keeping things simple to be effective. We also simplified our approach in terms of combining NYC and London, by only focusing on the public transportation that each city uses.
